In religious terms, symbols of the Explorer are a common site in market squares, and churches decorated with expensive works of art make up a large proportion of the more wonderful buildings in a Democracy town. The Democracy discourages the Builder Church due to its tolerance of oppression and various forms of slavery or bonded labour. Those who join the Church tend to be blackballed and shunned within their House, and collaboration is hard or impossible to find. For a the naturally gregarious Ozgur, this can be hard, and leads to a united, if weak Church. While the Spirit House has a Arbitrarium focused on the study of Builder Theology it is repeatedly underfunded and never elects representatives to the larger councils. It is thus made clear there is no space amongst the Democracy for such communities.
