A human or an Alfär amongst the Democracy is very likely to be acting in the position of a hired mercenary, leading the Democracy armies. This should not make it seem that the Ozgur are weak at fighting: it more demonstrates their tendency to employ those who have knowledge of their opponent’s tactics. Indeed, Ozgur were ritually formed to be strong as a slave race, and for this reason fighting is often seen as a dangerously close reminder to their once held position as strong backs and little else.
Others are present as experts, instructors or students. A few years' instruction in an Ozgur House is seen as a very suitable education in wealthy Hegemony families. Thus, other races are generally present for the alternate perspective they provide on issues, whether the industriousness of humans, or the brute force of Alfär.
Few non-Ozgur show the single-minded determination that suits deciding on a Mastery, as they tend to seek recreation ouside their calling and be seen as mere dabblers. The few that do, however, often make excellent agents for the Ambassadors, though they are known to find the constant mental commands to vote to be distracting rather than empowering.
