Alfar: Pointed ears or bandana covering ears. Clan markings on face are optional with pointed ears, mandatory if not using pointed ears.

Loud and brash. You’re better than everyone else and want to show off about it. Surcoats or matching outfits in your clan colours, furs, bright primary colours.

This is a guide to things that look particularly Vendicsal

Overall aesthetic

  • Vikings
  • Mediaeval nobles
  • Ostentatious
  • Jewel tones and rich, bright colours. Dark sumptuous colours. You should stand out
  • Rich fabrics; satins, velvets, brocades, patterns, furs
  • Jewellery, gaudy, bright, glittery.
  • This is a culture with atendency to loot things, including fashion, then shake the victims down for loose tailoring. The overall link here is “gaudy”

Base kit:

  • Doublets
  • Fitted trousers or hose.
  • Poet shirts
  • Layered, bright tunics
  • Bright, rich dresses cut for movement and practicality.
  • Bright, glittery trim
  • Heraldic tabards
  • Surcoats
  • What a knight wears to a party that could turn into a fight at any moment.
  • Waist sashes
  • Furs

Armour:

  • Leather armour (fitted for preference, fancy and decorative even better)
  • Plate, shiny, shiny plate, big pauldrons, often with a brightly coloured surcoat worn over it
  • Scale mail is absolutely wonderful here
  • Helmets

Weapons:

  • Shields; fancy and decorative is best.
  • Other than that it is pretty much anything goes, but ideally it should look like a weapon rather than a tool.

Accessories:

  • Symbols of the life path chosen (for example a surgeon might wear a bandolier of bandages, a scout a spyglass)
  • Jewellery; Large, statement pieces, brooches, bangles, glittery. More is more
  • Hats: Decorative, padded brims, soft caps, circlets, decorative headpieces
  • Gloves
  • Boots, fancy shoes.

Fictional inspirations:

  • The nobles from The Black Adder
  • Hollywood mediaeval (for example see the various films from the 1940s and 50s, Gawain and the Green Knight etc

Things to generally avoid:

  • Restraint
  • Horned helmets
